Financing the Persian Gulf water transfer project

The national plan for desalination and transfer of Persian Gulf water to the central and desert provinces of the country with a credit of more than 18 thousand billion rials is being implemented with the participation of 9 banks in the form of a consortium and is scheduled to be put into operation in 2018.

The latest status of this national project was discussed in a meeting that was held with the presence of a group of managing directors of member banks of this consortium and also the chairman of the economic commission of the parliament at the National Bank of Iran.
Mohammadreza Hosseinzadeh, the CEO of the National Bank of Iran, said in this meeting: Although some ignore the services of the banking system, the banking network has always been with the people in difficult situations and has come to the country’s aid in any situation.
He added: Now that the country is facing a water crisis, we must think about children and future generations. Therefore, the banking network actively participates in the national plan of desalination and transfer of Persian Gulf water to the industries of the southeast of the country with a sense of responsibility for the crisis of water shortage and drought.
Hosseinzadeh emphasized: With the participation of more state banks, a consortium under the agency of the National Bank of Iran has been formed to solve the concerns by building huge desalination stations in Hormozgan province and transferring desalinated water from the Persian Gulf to the desert and central provinces of the country. about the lack of fresh water in these areas.
CEO of National Bank of Iran stated: The cooperation and participation of public and semi-private banks in this project is excellent. With the efforts made, this project is in the stage of concluding and signing the contract, and the payment process will start soon.
He stated that the amount of participation of banks in this project is 18 thousand billion Rials and said: This project should be put into operation in 2018 according to the schedule.
The head of the Economic Commission and the representative of the people of Kerman in the parliament also said in this meeting: This project is a successful example of the banking system’s support for the private sector in large national projects.
Mohammad Reza Pourabrahimi emphasized: Now that the country is facing a water crisis, the effort of the country’s banking network in solving this problem and participating in this huge and national plan is commendable.
He added: “If we want the state of the country’s economy to become ideal and witness great events in industries, we must strengthen the position of the banking system.”
Poura Brahimi called National Bank of Iran as the largest state bank, the powerful arm of major national projects and appreciated the cooperation and participation of state and semi-private banks for participating in this project.
According to IRNA, for the implementation of this plan, a consortium has been formed with the participation of a large number of state banks and the agency of the National Bank of Iran to build huge desalination stations in Hormozgan province and transfer desalinated water from the Persian Gulf to the province. the desert and central parts of the country to participate.
The National Bank of Iran, Sepah, Agriculture, Mellat, Industry and Mining, Export, Welfare, Trade and Cooperative Development participate in the implementation of this plan.
This project aims to transport, supply and sweeten 130 million cubic meters annually in a 900 km long pipeline that passes through Hormozgan, Kerman and Yazd provinces in order to supply the water needed by Sarcheshme, Gol Gohar Sirjan and Chadormello copper companies. to supply drinking water to these areas.
Asia Water Development Engineering Company in the desalination sector and Persian Gulf Water Supply and Transfer Company in the transfer sector are in charge of project implementation.
